2013 SHOT Show Media Day: Parabellum Armament/Dublin AK Systems

I got to meet Ethan A. Dublin the inventor of the Ratchet Charging System(RCS). He came out with the idea about four years ago (don't quote me) while he was in high school. 

Over the past 4 plus years he's refined the product to require not screws or tools to install. It's plug-n-play drop-in simplicity. 

I got to try out the gen 2 version and it's sweet. 

That along with Parabellum Armament AKARS Adaptive Rail System and you have one awesome AK to keep on hand.

Gen 2 fits nice and it much more durable.

Ethan has a lot of other ideas up his sleeve and was also showing a prototype version of his new AK mag release system that allows you to release the magazines with your thumb without taking your hand off of the fire controls. So, you can drop a magazine while getting the  next one ready to insert much like the AR style.

He also mentioned that he had some products lined up for the good old Saiga 12 which I am excited about. I talked with him about what I would like to see and it looks like we see eye-to-eye there.

Lets hope he keeps pumping out great products because he is graduating from College with a marine engineering degree and the firearms product designs will be a side line going forward... maybe.

2013 SHOT Show Media Day: Daniel Defense ISR

I got to try out the Daniel Defense ISR that's Integrated Suppressed Rifle. 

This particular rifle is chambered in 300 BLK and it was quiet. The advantage to this configuration is that it only needs one tax stamp.

Too bad I can't buy the actual rifle I got to try out because it came with the extra fun switch feature!

2013 SHOT Show Media Day: IWI Tavor

IWI Travor is one heck of a cool rifle.

IWI has been working with the BATFE for a couple of years to produce a gun for the American civilian market. The Tavor fire control, bolt and chasis had to be designed/modified in such a way that the parts could never be interchangeable with the IDF version of the rifle.

They completed the mission and now the Tavor is available to us! Yeah!

The numbers aren't that big to start with but hopefully that will change.

My next rifle is a Tavor!

2013 SHOT Show Media Day: USFA ZiP .22

A new interesting and definitely unique firearm that was at the 2013 SHOT Show Media day was the USFA ZiP .22 Long Rifle pistol.

At first I just stared at it thinking, well 'What the Heck' or you know what I mean. 

I asked that demonstrator, who's name escapes me, what the purpose of this little square plastic 'pistol' was? What market are they filling? What prompted them to spend three years bringing this obviously odd shaped, unique manual of arms, thing to market?

The answer was more of  a look: If you have to ask you don't get it.

So, once the initial logical assessment attitude wore off I just went with it. 

I looked at it for what it was. An alien contraption that shoots .22 long rifle, no reciprocating slide, that accepts Ruger 10/22 magazines everyone has hanging around the house.

There are two "plungers" one on either side of the 5" barrel. The left one load the chamber and the right one clears any malfunctions. The plungers are practically flush with the barrel so keep your fingers of the trigger when performing any manipulations that involve the plungers.

Shooting the ZiP was pretty easy, no recoil or muzzle flip and surprisingly accurate.

You can use the standard two handed grip and it's comfortable.

This could easily be a 'hide in plain sight' firearm that packs a .22 Long Rifle punch.

The MSRP is about $200.00 which is pretty cheap. I would get one just for the heck of it.
